CLOSED DOORS:
“When God Says No”
TODAY’S VERSE
“A person’s heart plans his way, but the Lord directs his steps.”
Proverbs 16:9 NASB
TODAY’S QUOTE
Sometimes the door God closes is just as much an expression of His guidance as the door He opens.
TODAY’S MESSAGE
We naturally celebrate open doors. When an opportunity appears, a prayer is answered, or something finally works according to plan, it is easy to recognize God’s goodness.
Closed doors are harder.
Sometimes we pray sincerely, prepare carefully, and believe something would be good for us, only to watch the opportunity disappear. Our first reaction may be disappointment because we can only see what we wanted. God sees where that road would eventually lead.
Scripture reminds us that we can make plans, but God directs our steps. His direction sometimes comes through opportunities, but it can also come through interruptions, delays, rejection, and closed doors.
A closed door does not always mean you failed. Sometimes it means God protected you. Sometimes He is redirecting you. Sometimes the timing is wrong. Sometimes He has something different ahead.
Do not spend so much time staring at the door that closed that you miss where God is leading you next.
Trust His direction even when it differs from yours.
TODAY’S CHALLENGE
Think about one disappointment or closed door you are still struggling to accept. Surrender it to God and ask Him to redirect your attention toward where He wants you to go.
DISCUSSION QUESTIONS
- What closed door has been difficult for you to accept?
- Why do we sometimes assume our plan must also be God’s plan?
- How can disappointment become an opportunity for deeper trust?
- Where might God be redirecting you?
TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, I surrender the plans that did not happen the way I expected.
When You close a door, keep me from forcing it open simply because it is what I wanted. Give me enough faith to believe that Your wisdom is greater than my understanding.
Protect me from opportunities that would pull me away from Your purpose, and give me discernment to recognize the doors You want me to walk through.
Direct my steps and teach me to trust Your leadership.
In Jesus’ name, Amen.
